Wildlife Rescuer
Many calls that come into our 24/7 Wildlife Rescue & Advice line require someone that is confident and trained to contain and transport the bird or animal to a vet or carer. At other times we need people to collect animals from vets and transport to our wildlife carers who are often busy with feeds and cleaning enclosures. You could also nominate to join our Wildlife Ambulance crew after doing this training.
This is a great role for someone that likes driving and helping others and is capable of problem-solving when a rescue becomes tricky. You will be supported by a District Co-ordinator and provided with extensive online & practical training at our Wildlife Rescue 101.
This position requires training before you can volunteer and the purchase of some equipment. Please go to our training page to see when the next Wildlife Rescue 101 course is available.
Wildlife Carer
Caring for native wildlife is a privilege and a rewarding experience. It also requires commitment, emotional strength and a support network. SOWFI provides extensive and ongoing training in triage and care, and you will have the support of your team and District Co-ordinator. Our mission is to rehabilitate and release when we can or relieve suffering when it is necessary.
