Our amazing Wildlife Ambulance has died and we desperately need a new one to continue to provide rapid response to critically injured and unwell wildlife.
As the only dedicated all-species Wildlife Ambulance servicing Adelaide and Mount Lofty Ranges, we have been in high demand from the day we launched our first vehicle in September 2023.
Thanks to our amazing volunteers, the ambulance provides rapid response 7 days a week to critically injured and unwell wildlife, ensuring they get to a vet or carer rapidly. It also provides transport between vets for wildlife that need specialist care, and supports our wildlife carers by transporting animals between them and vet clinics. Our volunteers are on stand-by for a new vehicle since our poor old VW Caddy suffered critical injuries of it's own. Please help us help wildlife by donating today!!
Wildlife Finishing School SOWFI is excited to propose the establishment of a Wildlife Finishing School in Stirling, South Australia. This innovative project will significantly enhance SOWFI’s capacity to rehabilitate an additional 130 possums annually while providing valuable volunteering opportunities for the Hills community. SOWFI is pleased that the Adelaide Hills Council is engaging in community consultation on this proposal.
SOWFI is a science-led, front-line wildlife rescue and rehabilitation organisation.
Our volunteers care for orphaned, sick, injured and displaced wildlife and relieve suffering through effective rescue and rehabilitation, and releasing back into the wild whenever possible.
SOWFI offers training and supports research that benefits our unique South Australian wildlife. We advocate on behalf of our wildlife and create community and government awareness of their beauty and value to ensure they remain an essential part of South Australian for generations to come. Our volunteers fulfil many varied roles, which collectively, and in collaboration with other organisations, contributes to the short and long-term welfare of our native wildlife and the conservation of their habitat in South Australia.
With the ongoing loss of habitat due to tree clearing/pruning, bigger houses on smaller blocks, new housing developments and a preference for tidy gardens, our wildlife find it difficult to have somewhere to sleep at night. This puts them at greater danger of predators and removes natural protection from our extreme weather.
You can help by putting up boxes in your backyard. SOWFI recommends looking for boxes made by Faunature in your local garden centre or order online on the link below.
