About SOWFI
Save Our Wildlife Foundation Inc (SOWFI) was established in South Australia in 2018 by a group of wildlife carers who were looking for an organisation that provided science-led, best practice training, an objective and active management structure, and both professional and personal support. We are an Incorporated Association and registered charity. In 2020 we established a skills-based board to ensure best practice management and support for our volunteers. Meet the board.
Strategic Objectives:
CARE – To foster the well-being and support of our members while providing compassionate care for native wildlife, relieving the suffering of injured, sick, displaced, or orphaned animals through effective rescue, rehabilitation, and, where possible, release back into their natural habitats.
EDUCATION – to create awareness among South Australian’s about the importance and value of their native wildlife
CONSERVATION – promote preservation and protection of native wildlife and its habitats
COLLABORATION – to engage with key stakeholders
ADVOCACY – a voice on behalf of our local native wildlife
RESEARCH – to initiate, promote and fund research that benefits local native wildlife

SOWFI is being established by a group of people dedicating their time to ensuring the organisation is set up in a structure that will be sustainable and ensure fair and equitable treatment of all members.

Volunteers:
There will be an application process to become a volunteer. Volunteers will be able to apply for specific roles which will include Wildlife Carer, Wildlife Rescuer, and a range of administrative roles. We will ensure that our volunteers are supported and mentored in their first years and we maintain a high level of professionalism in our care of wildlife and the management of the organisation. - rescue and care for sick, injured, orphaned and displaced native wildlife with the intention of returning them to the wild.
- provide training to volunteers in all aspects of wildlife rehabilitation based on the latest scientific evidence.
- promote the protection of wildlife by maintaining and re-establishing habitat in collaboration with other conservation groups and research institutions
- advise the community on solutions to wildlife problems.
- raise public awareness of South Australia’s unique wildlife and its diverse habitat requirements through community talks and education programmes.
- operate an efficient wildlife organisation in South Australia which can be contacted at any time by any person in the community needing assistance with the care or rescue of native wildlife.
- publish a newsletter every two months and distribute it to current members and sponsors.
